What should I back up for disaster recovery

To recover TaskCentre after a system failure, you'll need to back up specific folders, registry keys, and databases. This article covers what to back up and where to find each item.

TaskCentre has a default installation folder under c:\Program Files (x86)\. The folder name varies by version — it may be called 'Orbis', 'BPA Platform', 'TaskCentre', or 'Orbis TaskCentre', and may also appear under C:\Program Files (X86)\Access Applications. Back up this folder.

Back up the Windows registry folder at \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Orbis Software. Also back up c:\iwtemp and c:\IWDB if these folders exist on your system.

If you're using a SQL store for TaskCentre, back up the TCDatabase database in your SQL server. The database name may differ if it was configured differently — follow the steps below to find it in the configurator.

  1. Click the Windows start menu.

  2. Type configurator.

  3. Double-click **configurator** to run it.

  4. Expand the **Server** node, then expand the **Store** node.

  5. Select the **Connect to / Create an alternative Microsoft SQL Server Store** checkbox.

  6. Click Next.

The database name is displayed in the Database field.
